Every recycling or reuse process depends on one thing: getting the right material in the right condition. Once food scraps, plastic, glass and paper are mixed in one bag, most of that value is gone.
Four streams, four uses
- Food waste (scraps, peels, leftovers) feeds Black Soldier Fly larvae and biogas digesters.
- Plastics (bottles, containers, bags) can be recycled, or turned into products and art like the installation on our eco-tour.
- Glass (bottles, jars) can be washed and reused, or melted down again.
- Paper and nylon (paper, cardboard, nylon bags) go to collectors and recyclers.
Why it starts at home
Clean, sorted waste is worth more to recyclers, keeps food waste out of dumpsites where it releases methane, and creates steady supply for green enterprises. It takes a few extra seconds per item.
