We aim to raise the next generation of climate innovation leaders across Africa.
ACLIF nurtures and empowers the next generation of climate leaders, innovators and entrepreneurs who will drive transformational change and sustainability across Africa and beyond.
By the end of the fellowship, participants will have developed and proposed innovative solutions to real-world climate challenges in their communities. They are also introduced to the Africa Circular Innovation School (ACIS), further expanding their opportunities for growth and impact.
ACLIF is designed for out-of-school leavers, young professionals and green business innovators in Nigeria and across Africa — equipping each cohort with the skills, knowledge and network to drive impactful climate action and innovation.
Fellows are introduced to the interconnected systems driving the climate crisis — climate science, planetary boundaries, the circular economy, biodiversity loss, renewable energy transitions, food systems transformation, intelligent waste management, and the policy and finance frameworks shaping global and African climate action. Facilitated by practitioners, policymakers, researchers and entrepreneurs — not theorists.
ACLIF deliberately spans sectors, because climate change does not respect disciplinary boundaries. Fellows explore climate innovations across health, food systems, waste management, digital applications, fashion and textile sustainability, e-mobility and technology.
Structured training in Human-Centred Design principles, paired with climate advocacy skills — equipping fellows to communicate, persuade and mobilise around climate action in public and policy spaces. The goal is knowledge geared towards people, planet and profit.
Nature has been solving complex design problems for 3.8 billion years. Fellows learn to see nature not as a resource to be extracted but as a teacher to be studied — alongside practical circular economy business model design.
Fellows work with real data, case studies and current research throughout the programme, grounding innovation in evidence rather than assumption.
A dedicated module applying design thinking methodology specifically to circular economy challenges — a structured, creative problem-solving framework fellows can apply to any sustainability challenge throughout their careers.
Learning extends beyond the lecture room. Fellows visit renewable energy sites, food systems facilities, waste management operations, the IITA Forest, entrepreneurial hubs, and policy and government centres.
Every ACLIF fellow — individually or collaboratively — designs and presents a Climate Action Project: an evidence-based, community-focused solution to a real climate challenge in their environment.
Fellows apply every tool, framework and insight from the fellowship to a problem they care about, in a community they know, with an ambition to implement what they design. Projects are developed progressively throughout the fellowship, refined through peer feedback and mentor input, and presented at a final showcase before a panel of judges, industry leaders and potential partners.
The best projects become the seeds of enterprises, community initiatives and advocacy campaigns that fellows carry forward into the next chapter of their lives.
