The world's dominant economic model is obviously broken and unsustainable. We extract resources from the earth, turn them into products, use those products, and throw them away. Linear. Wasteful. Finite. And increasingly, catastrophic.
Africa did not design this system. But Africa is living with its consequences: depleted soils, polluted waterways, disappearing forests, livestock farmers who cannot afford feed, households that cannot afford food, and communities breathing the methane released by the organic waste rotting in landfills a few kilometres from where they live.
At CEID Hub, we are building a different model. One where waste is a resource. Where nature is a teacher. Where the end of one process is the beginning of another. Where prosperity and ecological health are not competing ambitions.
We believe in cradle-to-cradle, not cradle-to-grave. We are strong advocates for zero extraction of virgin materials for the production of new products. And we must act now.
Bodija, Ibadan — a living, working proof of concept that regeneration, restoration and circular systems are not utopian ideals but practical, operational realities. Every system on the hub feeds into the next.
